Retro-Bit Adds USB Support to v2 Wireless Controllers

Retro-Bit have just released a firmware update for their “v2” line of wireless 2.4GHz controllers that enables USB controller support via X-Input.  That will allow you to use them on MiSTer, PC, Mac, Switch, RPi and basically all other devices that accept a standard USB controller.  Retro-bit claims the average latency is only 4ms, however as-always, I’ll be interested to see what the community finds when we test.  More info after the affiliate links to the v2 controllers currently in stock:

First, while I have no reason not to believe their 4ms claim, I need to stress the point that if true, it’s a controller lag test – That doesn’t account for the target device and it’s latency.  Basically, if you’re plugging it into a MiSTer, their 4ms claim is probably true…but it’s not Retro-Bit’s fault if you have a laggy Windows PC, or if a software manufacturer releases a console update that slows down controller ports.  When reading controller lag measurements, it’s important to remember that’s only the controller’s latency.  Which is how it should be listed, but I just wanted to make that clear for any newcomers who might be reading this.

Also, according to the MiSTer controller latency database, some of the Retro-Bit wired controllers go as low as 1ms, while others have hit a frame or more.  If this new firmware brings the wireless controllers down to 4ms when plugged in, I think that’s excellent.  The N64-themed Tribute64 was already very low latency, however the other controllers had about a frame of lag.  It’s my opinion that this might be the perfect solution:  Use them wirelessly when ultra-low-lag isn’t required, then plug them in when it is.

I’ll try to get a few of these controllers in to test before and after the firmware update, however I’m still waiting on new equipment to arrive for that.  Sorry for the delay!
