Jenovi’s Retro Impressions recently posted a video chronicling the history of the analog controller. It was pretty interesting to see how the gaming industry’s “standard” controllers have evolved over the years and to see some forward-thinking companies adding true analog support long before the N64 and Dreamcast made it mainstream.
I was particularly interested in a controller for the Genesis / Mega Drive that was designed specifically for After Burner and Space Harrier. I’d never heard of the controller before and it really sparked my interest!: https://bit.ly/xe-1ap
It was also interesting to hear about some of the ideas Sega had for the 3D controller and also why the cord was a removable piece! Enough with the spoilers though, check it out for yourself to see the history of some unique analog controllers!
