Arcade1up Street Fighter Cab Emulation Issues

In a move that should surprise no one, Arcade1UP, cabinets don’t live up to the hype. The company who boldly states on their website that “Arcade1Up game cabinets look, feel and play just like the classic arcade games you remember” recently released their Street Fighter 2 cabinet. The classic arcade game that I remember never exhibited emulation artifacts such as horizontal shimmering effects most likely due to poor scaling.

“Your Elephants are really shimmery, Dhalsim!”

In addition, the cab, which comes with a mono speaker is also missing the left sound channel on two of its three games. This is due to poor R&D and quality control. According to Arcade1UP, Capcom sent them stereo ROMs (why wouldn’t they????) instead of a mono ROM. Rather than test it and configure their emulator, Arcade1UP simply slapped the ROMs into their machine and shipped them out to the unsuspecting masses. These should be universal software  configuration issues, as at the time of my writing this, no new hardware fixes have been commissioned.

Strangely enough, many reviews where reviewers received free units  haven’t mentioned the visual glitches.

The hardware issues are all over the place. Poor viewing angles, backlight bleeding, and dead pixels are just some of the issues that I’ve dealt with.  More info in the following video:

Of course, these opinions are my own and not necessarily the same as those of RetroRGB. (Though I’d suspect that Bob would agree with me on most if not all of this!)
