This game is a remake of Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap, that was originally released in 1989. The new graphics and music are excellent, however at any time in the game you can press one button to switch between the modern and original 8-bit graphics and sound. While I absolutely loved this feature and would often flip between modes just to see the differences, I stuck with the modern versions.
In my opinion, this is one of the games that sets the bar very high for modern “retro-style” games and I strongly recommend fans of action platformers give it a try!
