It’s that time again, YouTube user RedHotSonic has just uploaded the trailer for the 2021 Sonic Hacking Contest. And in case you don’t know, the Sonic Hacking Contest (SHC) is a a week long event where people can submit ROM hacks and mods for sonic games that people can download and play. Not only can you play the entries in the contest but you can also vote for them to win certain awards. Outside of the contest, there’s also the expo section, where people can submit entries for people to play, but they don’t get to earn votes. The SHC opens up next week on Monday, October 11th.
The SHC also has people that stream the entries throughout that week. If you want a list of everyone streaming you can read it in this newsletter that the SHC has released. You can also see a list of all the entries in that news letter as well. There are a lot of hacks for the Genesis which should (hopefully) be playable on real hardware, but there are also a lot of mods for 3D Sonic games and 2D Sonic game on PC as well.
I am excited to see what comes out of this year’s Sonic Hacking Contest, it’s something I look forward to seeing every year. The entries are always great, and the streams are usually fun to watch as well. And I will definitely be playing some of the entries myself.
