An older project was just resurrected that aims to create a “RAM Cart” for use with the Sega CD. No, this isn’t another “backup RAM / save game file” project, this cartridge would work more along the lines of the Saturn RAM cart, adding 4MiB RAM that the Sega CD and 32xCD could access. At the moment, it’s working with SCD games, but not 32x CD. If there’s any hardware developers out there willing to help, please post in the Github and let the team know.

This project was originally started by Tiido over a decade ago, purely for the Sega CD. Chilly Willy was the only other person known to have a prototype and the PCB was recently reverse-engineered by MiGeRA, which is how this Github got started. The hope to use on the 32xCD, however it’s been found that it is incompatible, so v2 is being worked on by Jimbro1000 and Vic. That’s where the help comes in – The team is looking for contributors to help shape the V2 prototype and get it working with the 32x as well.
While this would be homebrew-focused, it’s a fun idea that many dev’s could take advantage of. Seeing all the insane progress modern Sega Genesis dev’s have made over the years, adding something like this could add some pretty cool things to original hardware users. While it’s totally a small niche project, I wanted to share it and hope someone might know how to fix it.
