Ryan from Archades Games recently reviewed a new adapter that lets you connect an NVMe hard drive internally in your Wii. This uses the external USB port for connectivity, so you won’t gain any advantages over an external solution. Also, USB Loader GX has some compatibility issues (that Ryan demonstrates), but Wii Flow seems to work. If you’d like an internal-storage solution for your Wii, this is something to consider at only about $22 (no HDD included). Check out the video above for installation and demo, plus I have some thoughts below:

I’ve seen a lot of people excited about this adapter, however I think it’s a bit more niche than some people may realize. I’ve been using $40, ultra-small USB drives on my Wii’s for awhile now that have full compatibility and don’t stick out much farther than the USB adapter in this kit. There’s also still room to connect my USB Ethernet adapter and adding games is as easy as unplugging the USB stick and connecting it to my PC. I think a plug and play solution like that would be better for almost everyone, over something internally installed.
That said, what if you already have a spare NVMe drive lying around? Buying this might save you some money and you’d get to utilize a piece of hardware you already own. Also, I’m always a fan of people who build weird and unique items, even if they’re not going to be wildly popular. Heck, many of the projects I’m involved in could be described the same way, so by no means am I throwing shade to the creators of this adapter – I’m simply trying to paint a realistic picture of who this is for and clear up any confusion.
