Megaswitch HD: Dither Blending & Scale2/3x Added

Developer Stanislav Parhomovich has just released a new firmware of the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive HDMI mod, called the Megaswitch HD.  This update adds a dither blending option, which is really handy for things like the waterfalls in Sonic, or the clouds in Crusader Of Centy.  He also added Scale 2x and 3x options, which can be pretty cool for the few Genesis games with 3D graphics.  More info below the links:

It’s my strong opinion that if you have one of these installed in your Genesis / Mega Drive, definitely update and give it a try!  I think almost everyone will want to at least try the dither blending and see how it affects their favorite games – Make sure to adjust the depth and see were you like it best!

Scale 2x and 3x on the other hand, probably won’t be used as often.  Don’t get me wrong, I love that Stanislav added the feature!  It’s just not something that mixes well with most of the Genesis’ library of games.  Luckily, there’s a few examples in the video above that perfectly demonstrate the point:  I don’t think people will be using Scale2x/3x with Sonic, but you really should try it whenever there’s 3D graphics.

Also, if you’d like to see me demo the MegaSwitch HD, check out the livestream I did awhile back:
