A team of Mega Man fans have just released a remake of Mega Man 4 on the Sega Genesis they’re calling “Episode Red”. This is the first game in a series of re-creations they’re calling “Mega Man: The Sequel Wars”. The goal is to rebuild the NES versions of Mega Man 4, 5 and 6 on the Sega Genesis with new 16-bit graphics and a rearranged soundtrack built on the Genesis’ audio chips. While this is done in the spirit of The Wily Wars, this is NOT a romhack, it is fully coded from scratch in C using the SGDK library! Since it’s not using any original code, the team is able to distribute the game directly, with no patching. More info and a download is available here:

I just spent some time playing this game (in “normal” mode) and it seemed awesome…but equally as hard as the original. I’m definitely someone who prefers Mega Man 1 & 2, however there is an “easy mode” that I haven’t tried yet. There’s also optional features like double jumping, sliding in-air and many others that might add to your experience. Honestly, if you’re a fan of Mega Man and have the ability to play a Genesis rom, give this a try!
