Mega Man 5 NES to SNES

Developer Infidelity has just publicly released his latest NES to SNES conversion, this time for the game Mega Man 5.  As with his previous conversions, these eliminate slowdown, reduce sprite flicker and allow for SNES-related enhancements that aren’t possible on NES hardware.  Unfortunately, Mega Man 5 has quite a bit of lag as a result of how it was coded.  Infidelity said he’ll take what he learned from this conversion and try to address the lag in Mega Man 6, which he’s already started porting.  This (as with all his other releases) are freely available to download, however please consider supporting on Patreon, to fund further conversions!  More info after the links:

Here’s a full list of all the features and changes from the NES version to this one:

  • L/R buttons can hot swap weapons/items during in-game play
  • X button while held is rapid fire
  • A button is slide, but when jumping from sliding with the A button, Mega Man will retain the momentum from the slide, causing him to have a dash+jump effect as in Mega Man X. *note, dash jump mechanic use at your own risk, especially on 16×16 blocks surrounded by pits, sometimes it doesn’t register, and you’ll simply slide off of the 16×16 block. This was just a fun little feature I had implemented, the real intent of the A button was just for slide, but the rom hacker side of me wanted to garnish this up a bit, heh
  • A button while climbing a ladder will give Mega Man a brief burst of speed, to help move faster up/down ladders
  • Select button now hot swaps CGRAM (palette) tables, currently 18 to choose from.
  • Weapon menu will display the currently active CGRAM (palette) table
  • Changes to mini boss within Wave Man stage, to now retain sky/mountain parallax scrolling during fight. Mini boss occupies bg layer 2 of the snes.
  • Rush Coil bugfix by Puresabe. “This is a bugfix for the Rush Coil for Rockman 5. When Mega Man jumps next to the Rush Coil, the Rush Coil jumps with Mega Man. With this patch, Mega Man can now jump on the Rush Coil even if he is next to it.”
  • M Tank count has been changed from 01 to 09
  • Changed Mega Man’s ceiling pose at end of game, during portion of time when he is not holding up the ceiling. Instead he does his looking around pose.
  • Restored train up/down screen vertical shift effect in Charge Man’s rematch room in Wily 3.
