I absolutely loved playing Axiom Verge when it was released on the Wii U and ended up liking it even more when I played it on the Switch with a SNES-Style 8Bitdo controller. The graphics and gameplay matched up with everything that made classic 2D action/exploration games good; The fact that it’s “modern retro” doesn’t make it good, it’s simply that when done well, that style of game stands the test of time.
