Retro Fighters recently announced a new controller they’re calling the D6: A $50 USB + wireless controller that’s compatible with the Sega Dreamcast (via included adapter), as well as the Switch, PC, MiSTer and most other platforms that use an included USB adapter. It also boasts some impressive lag test numbers, coming in at 1.95ms in USB wired mode and 5.03ms in wireless modes! We missed the pre-order window (sorry!!), but you can sign up for their mailing list to be notified when they’re in stock around late Aprilof this year. More info after the link:

The first thing to mention – obviously – is this controller doesn’t have an analog stick and is designed for any game that’s d-pad focused. It also uses Kailh micro switches for both the d-pad and face buttons, aiming for a arcade-clicky feel. I think this could be a great choice for a ton of original Dreamcast games (3rd Strike!), but also might be a perfect fit for tons of games on the MiSTer FPGA project.
…and that’s the next thing to mention: Retro Fighters is now using the extremely accurate controller lag test method via the MiSTer. While of course, your environment will be a big factor when in wireless mode and the USB results might be slower on other platforms, this is the exact test results we in the retro gaming community have been begging for! I’m really looking forward to these hitting customers and having us verify the results and see where it differs.
Overall, I think this looks really cool and would be a perfect fit for many setups. I’m looking forward to trying one out when it’s released!
