Outrun2006tweaks Brings Sega’s Arcade Classic Into the Modern Era

Since it’s original arcade release in 2003, there have been an ungodly amount of ports, re-releases and remixes of Sega’s incredible OutRun 2. One such release, the PC port of OutRun 2006: Coast to Coast, has recently been receiving a steady stream of excellent tweaks and upgrades, courtesy of GitHub user emoose. These fixes and upgrades aim to enhance the experience for modern machines and more closely bring this version in line with the arcade original. The list of changes is fairly exhaustive, but here are the major takeaways:

Due to licensing issues around the many real-world sports cars featured in-game, OutRun 2006 has sadly been de-listed from all digital storefronts for years now, effectively making it PC abandonware. An unfortunate situation, given the amount of work that’s gone into this project, but expired copyrights and expensive licensing fees really shouldn’t stand between you and one of the best arcade racers of all time.
