Kid Icarus SNES Port with 3DS Backgrounds

Developer Rumbleminze has just released an update to his previous NES to SNES port of Kid Icarus.  This one includes the usual reduction of sprite flicker and slowdown that is often found in these conversions, but he also included the backgrounds from the ‘3D Classics’ 3DS version, which replace the single color backgrounds of the original.  He also included a randomizer, as well as an option for MSU-1 CD quality audio.  It should work on real hardware as well as ROM carts, with MSU-1 available wherever supported.  More info below the links:

Rumbleminze had previously done NES to SNES conversions on Double Dragon, Rescue Rangers, Rygar and Super Dodgeball, however this updated version of his Kid Icarus port is the most extensive.  All are utilizing FastROM/HiROM to further speed up the data transfer, which combined with the SNES’ higher sprite limit should significantly improve performance.

Also, you can toggle the backgrounds, randomizer and MSU-1 audio right from the title screen, so if you’d prefer to just play vanilla Kid Icarus without slowdown and flicker, that’ll still work great as well!

If you’d like more details as to why these NES -> SNES ports are such a big deal, I already covered this in a previous post and discussed it during Weekly Roundup #361 at the 12min mark:  https://youtu.be/rviGb9gS_CA?t=721  While the previous post/podcast was talking about the developer Infidelity’s conversions, all of that still applies here:  You basically get the same exact game (or more!), just without some of the NES’ limitations.
