The Slo Mo Guys just posted a video that uses ultra-high-speed cameras to show how a vector monitor’s beam draws the image on-screen. This is one of the best “CRT demo” video’s I’ve ever seen, as it clearly demonstrates how unique vector monitors are compared to standard CRT’s and modern displays – If you’ve ever seen one in person, you can definitely “feel” the difference, but this video explains why.
I’ve always been fascinated with vector monitors, including the Vectrex home console; That was only B&W, but uses the same technology as the arcade monitors to provide a really unique experience. I’d love to some day rent high-speed equipment and shoot my own videos that demonstrate the different types of CRT’s, however I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do as good a job as the Slo Mo Guys, so definitely check these videos out!
