Sega of Japan has just announced another mini emulation console, this time modeled off the Astro City cabinet. The price is $130 on Amazon and it’s expected to ship in December of this year. There’s also a control pad that will sell for around $30 as well.
The design looks similar to the Neo Geo Mini, with a small form factor case, HDMI outputs and USB inputs for the controller.
According to Segadriven.com, the full list of games has yet to be revealed, but a small selection have been confirmed (and shown on the Amazon listing):
- Alien Syndrome
- Alien Storm
- Golden Axe
- Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder
- Columns II
- Dark Edge
- Tant R
- Virtua Fighter
- Fantasy Zone
- Altered Beast
As always, I have mixed feelings about these “toys”. While they’re fun and look neat on a shelf, wouldn’t you rather spend almost $200 on a device that provides a more accurate gaming experience? I mean, the price of the Astro Mini is about the same as a DE-10 nano, which can be used to power a MiSTer!
