Artemio Urbina’s 240p Test Suite Finally Hits Saturn!

After years of waiting, we finally have Artemio’s 240p Test Suite now on SEGA Saturn care of hitomi2500, who’s ported it as their submission to SegaXtreme‘s annual Saturn homebrew game competition!

According to hitomi, however, this port of the Suite is [currently] a work in progress, and calibration results based on this port could be unreliable…

The included archive contains 2 versions: a .cue/.iso for CD/ODE, and .ss for flashing the cartridge. (The cartridge format is supported by mednafen emulator)

As most folks are probably aware, the 240p test suite is designed to help in the evaluation of displays, upscalers, upscan converters and line doublers.

It has tests designed with the processing of 240p signals in mind, although when possible it includes other video modes and specific tests for them. These have been tested with video processors on real hardware and a variety of displays, including CRTs and Arcade monitors via RGB.

As a secondary target, the suite aims to provide tools for calibrating colors, black and white levels for specific console outputs and setups.

This specific port was made using YAUL, an independent Saturn development library that doesn’t rely on SEGA’s own libraries.

Specific to Saturn hardware is the inclusion of the following scan modes & resolutions:
Scan Mode: 240p, 480i, 480i same fields
Vertical (Active Lines): 224 or 240
Horizontal Resolution: 320, 352, 640 or 704

The suite includes the standard display test patterns, video tests & hardware tests, though the individual tests included may vary compared to the Suite on other consoles:

Test patterns include Color & Black Levels & Geometry:

A variety of Suite standard video tests are also available:

Hardware tests included are a basic controller input test and system information:
